Beautiful plate from Danbury Mint and artist Susie Morton titled "Ruffian". This plate is 8" in diameter, edged in gold and is from the "Champion Thouroughbreds" collection. Numbered B977, I do not have the COA. Ruffian was one of the greatest fillies to ever race on this earth. She was undefeated until the great grudge match with Foolish Pleasure, which she was winning until she broke down. She tied or broke the records in each of the races she ran. She won the filly triple crown in 1974, champion 2 yr old filly 1974, champion 3 yr old filly 1975, racing hall of fame 1976. Ranked #35 in the top 100 thoroughbreds of the 20th century, had her life been not cut so short I have no doubt she would be in the top 10, if not in the top 5.
