Just in time for Halloween!!!!! This Salem Witch spoon was the very spoon that started the souvenir spoon collecting craze in the late 1800's. It was made by Gorham for Daniel Low & Co. of Salem, Mass.(incorporated under this name in 1901). A number of different sizes of this design were made over the years. This particular spoon measures 4 1/4" long and has great detail. The handle itself is designed as a witches broom circled by rope which holds the witch testing pins in place. At the top of the handle the witch holds onto the moon with one hand and clutches her broom with her other. Coming down the broom we see the 1692 date of the witch trials, the word Salem, and at the very bottom of the handle we see the witch's cat. On the reverse of the spoon we see the back of the witch, the broom, and the cat. The bowl is gold washed front and back. On the back of the bowl near the handle is the old Gorham back stamp, sterling, and Daniel Low. Condition is very good with light wear and no damage. It has never been engraved.A wonderful item to add to a souvenir spoon or holiday spoon collection. Great gift item or addition to a shop's inventory.Buyer pays $3.75 for first class mail which includes insurance and tracking. Happy ebaying : )
