Here is a superb vintage rare Dansette "Challenge C101" Record player,In Red & Gold flecked cream! The base & the lid are finished in red rexine & the sides, rear & lid interior are cream with gold flecks, The main front panel has a black/silver fleck cloth covering with two rotary controls one is a combined On/Off Volume & the other is the Tone, adjacent to the volume control is a red pilot lamp that lights when the player is on, above the tone control is a black iconic Dansette badge with the Challenge name in gold on it (small peice missing from right side of badge),the top of the front panel has a gilt strip running along it. The turntable is a Garrard autoslim with four speeds 16, 33, 45, & 78rpmThe turntable has been stripped,cleaned and greased. the idler wheel has been replaced (i have put the other in with the player as a spare), but the player needs an idler spring(not had time to source one) consequently the mechanism is not working correctly. Dansette record players were the undisputed market leaders during the 1950s & 1960s,they were the must have players for music lovers & were particularly popular with thenations teenagers drawn to the bright colours and the fact that they were portable meant you could take them anywhere there was a mains outlet, teenagers bedrooms & parties were always popular places to find a Dansette! read more
