This auction is for an iconic cast iron candle holder designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs, Denmark c1960. This is the Tiny Taper Holder commonly referred to as the Spider Born in 1919 Jens H Quistgaard was the son of the sculptor Harald Quistgaard. He trained and worked as a sculptor, ceramicist and draughtsman. He served an apprenticeship with Georg Jensen and following the Second World War became an independent designer. In 1954 he co-founded Dansk International Designs along with the American entrepreneur Ted Nierenberg. Quistgaard’s products are distinguished by the use of subtle organic forms and a superlative handling of materials. The candle holder is designed to hold 12 taper candles and measures 11cm in diameter. It is fully marked Dansk Designs Denmark and carries the initials JHQ. For international buyers nothing will be sent by surface mail - it takes too long and things tend to go missing or get broken. Please see my other items.
