This is a casket set by Monsieur A Darlot of Paris. Darlot was responsible for a number of different casket sets. This one is in an extremely good condition, if not near excellent, comprising two lens barrels and six different lenses. It can be used as both an Achromatic Meniscus or as a Aplanat/Rapid Rectilinear set. Sold for Taylor, Taylor- Hobson and re-mounted with their name in 1894, it comes in the original leather carrying case plus the original flange. Here are some more details:- 1) the lenses are set in a circular shaped brown leather case, which has not been heavily used; 2) both barrels have amazingly beautiful blemish free (completely original) brass/lacquer (showing less than little use); 3) the ' achromatic /meniscus' has a fully working aperture and a maximum opening of 30mm; 4) the other barrel which is shorter has a very smooth opening and closing iris; and 5) the lenses are in the following focal lengths:- 5.1"; 12.65"; 19.5"; 6.75"; 9.85"; and 15.25 and which will of course produce additional focal lengths when used together as an 'Aplanat set' Each lens is absolutely immaculate, no scratches, some very slight signs of past cleaning and free of all defects. further confirming that the set as a whole has had very little use.
