Early Guardala handmade tenor saxophone mouthpiece Your chance to buy a piece of jazz history. This is an extremely rare Dave Guardala 3-digit, handmade, gold-plated Dave Liebmann tenor saxophone mouthpiece. Guardala's big break came in the 1980s when he was commissioned by Liebmann, an established sax player and sideman for the likes of Miles Davis and Chick Corea, to make a mouthpiece for him. The success of this piece led directly to Guardala's legendary association with Michael Brecker. This example is marked with the customary hand-engraved 'DG', plus 'Liebmann' and the 3-digit serial number '282'. According to my measurement the tip opening is .100The piece is incredibly responsive and versatile with a bright but full and warm tone that cuts through and projects very well. It produces a sound of enormous character. It can whisper or it can roar. This mouthpiece is all original and you can still see Dave's famous hash/hand work on the facing. It has been played a lot during the 25 years or so that I've had it but, believe me, it's one of the great ones. There are tooth marks on the bite plate which have been infilled with epoxy resin and the gold plating is wearing thin here and there - but the tip, side rails and chamber are perfect. I use a mouthpiece patch on the bite plate when I play it.Includes the more modern Guardala ligature read more
