This is another example of the new DBD folder. This is a totally new approach to slip joint folders. The slip joint folder has been around for hundreds of years and 99.9% of them operate by means of a mainspring which engages the tang of the knife and the tension of this mainspring holds the blade closed and also holds it open. A great idea except for when the spring weakens and fails to do its job. We have all seen pocket knives with a "lazy" blade that does not snap open and closed. Twenty-first century technology has at last come to the slip joint folder! In the DBD folder, the titanium liner provides the spring power to the tang of the blade. Two hardened steel balls, held in a tab cut into the liner of the knife, one on each side, go into a depression in the tang (a Detent) and hold the blade open. The Balls snap into the Detents forcing the blade to snap into the open position. Same thing when closing. Thus the, Double Ball Detent, DBD! All of the action takes place in the tang area of the knife under the scales, nothing is visible. The interior of the knife is empty! This makes for a very light knife. This particular example with the mosaic damascus bolsters and pearl scales is a little heavier and tips the scales at 3 1/2 ounces. This is a fairly sizeable knife measuring 7 1/8" long overall with a blade length of 3 1/16 read more
