Product Death Plaque & Medal Trio Issued For 19490 Pte. Joshua Ray, Of The 6th Bn. York & Lancaster Regiment Lot includes Death Plaque, 1914-15 Star, British War & Victory Medal pair, CWGC "certificate", photocopy of his medal card and pages of his service record. Mr Ray was killed in action on the 30.9.1916. He is buried in Stump Road Cemetery, on the Somme in France. He was 24 years old, a miner by trade, he left a wife and child in Doncaster. His full entitlement is on offer here. Name and number correctly impressed on bottom rim. Information The 11th Division (and by extension the 6th York & Lancs) attacked Stuff Redoubt at around 4pm on the 30/09/1916. The attack took place on the final day of the Battle of Thiepval Ridge, which was to cost the allied forces around 12,500 casualties. The attack was partly successful, the 32nd Brigade (of which the 6th Bn where a part) advanced along Hessian & Zollern trench "bombing" their way through. Their bravery secured the southern half of the redoubt. The rest of the redoubt would be taken during the Battle of Ancre Heights on the 9/10/1916.
