ITEM INFO:Only 15 American daily newspapers sent their own staff men to cover the Vietnam War through the American "year of escalation." The Arizona Republic was one of them. To bring its readers a firsthand account of the war involving an increasing number of Americans, The Republic sent two correspondents. One of these was Don Dedera, a widely read columnist and Ernie Pyle Memorial Award winner who arrived in Vietnam in the spring of 1966. During his time t, Dedera logged 110 takeoffs and landings in 110 days in the war zone covering 7,000 miles. This book is a collection of Dedera's dispatches and observations of American ideals in conflict with Vietnamese realities (ex. literacy vs. illiteracy, highest standard of living in the world vs. one of the lowest). Book measures approximately 8 1/2 by 11. Soft cover. Some slight wear to corners. 130 pages of text plus black and white and color photos. Author's signature on inside cover. Excellent interior with small label mark at top of first page (see pic). Comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home.
