This Deer Antler (Calumet) peace pipe measures 7” in length. The antler pipe bowl measures 1 cm and is 1/2" deep. The pipe is wrapped in leather and detailed with beads and a feather. This is a fully functional pipe. It would also make a great addition to one’s Native American art collections. Nowadays the Surgeon General reminds us of the health hazards of tobacco, but in earlier times on the North American continent it saved lives. That was when leaders of Native American Indian nations smoked it in a long-stemmed ceremonial pipe after negotiating treaties of peace. Smoking the pipe and passing it signified their commitment to the treaty as surely as a signature. The term Peace Pipe is a white man’s term, called Calumets by the Native Americans. It is properly referred to as the Sacred Pipe. T are Calumets for sacred and ceremonial purposes, and public arrangements. The Sacred Pipe is not generally used for public gatherings.
