Custom Built andPainted D&H MOW Sand CarSand Car Car # 35463 Colonie Yard As the Delaware and Hudson continually updated their rolling stock fleet, many of their older revenue cars were converted over to Maintenance of Way service cars. Such is the case of their old outside braced wooden hopper cars. These cars were compartmentalized inside and were equipped with hatches in the roof for loading and dump hatches in the floors for unloading. Such cars served as revenue cars carrying cement. As the railroad 'dieselized' these cars were all eventually replaced with modern designed steel hopper cars. However - with no real modifications other than renumbering and being assigned to various yards thru the D&H system, they went on to serve the railroad for years as MOW cars carrying and storing sand for use along the road. These cars could be seen in several yards along the D&H - right up until the end of the railroad itself! Like the prototype - this car started out as a dedicated service Cement Hopper Car. After assembly, this HO Scale Tichy Train Cement Hopper Car Kit was painted then decaled with custom decals.
