An impressive pair of large Derby figures of a Shepherd & Shepherdess modelled as candlestick figures c.1765. These are listed in Bradshaws '18th Century English Porcelain Figures' as: K64, 'Shepherd playing a recorder' & 'Shepherdess holding flowers' and illustrated page 197, plate 109. These are based on Meissen prototypes and were modelled at Chelsea from which the Derby versions are directly copied. Patch-marks. Overall height =8. 5" [21.5cms]. Condition: Both have lost their candle-sconces, the shepherd has minor losses: end of recorder, dogs r/h foreleg, tips of r/h fingers, very minor flower/bocage at edges. He displays well. The shepherdess has lost some bocage, r/h arm broken & refixed [clean breaks-no losses]. On her own she is perhaps less impressive than her companion but together they make a good pair [as they say!]. Original pairs are hard to source. If you wish to avoid postal costs you are welcome to collect by arrangement.
