Information: This extremely rare, architectural engraving is from Antoine Desgodetz work, Les Edifices Antiques de Rome Dessines et Mesures tres Exactement. The work was published in Paris by Coignard in 1682.

Desgodetz work was extremely detailed and highly decorative. He was sent to Rome to create engravings of the monuments and antiquities to further instruct French artists and architects. The work proved so helpful that it was reissued in 1729 and 1779. This folio engraving available is from the first edition of Les Edifices…
