This is a lovely original group which comprises WW1 G V Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) boxed, unnamed as issued with British War Medal (BWM) and Victory Medal (VM) both correctly named to: "Lieut. G.A. Pitt. R.A.F.". DFC on original ribbon in original case with original pin attachment. Pair on original ribbons with original period stitching and safety pins. Medals EF. DFC L/G. 3-6-1919. - "Lieutenant George Albert Pitt. No. 206 Sqn. R.A.F""The above pilot has successfully carried out 50 bomb raids, 9 long distance reconnaissances, exposed over 900 plates over the lines and in July destroyed an enemy scout. His standard of work has been of the highest"Pitt's Observer, Cpl Betteridge, was awarded the DFM. On the 29/7/18 in the Ypres area, Pitt and Betteridge, flying a bombing raid in DH 9 D1689 were ttacked in formation by 8 Pfalz scouts. "Cpl Betteridge engaged a machine which climbed under his tail. 100 rounds were fired at 75 yards range , as EA banked steeply; it immediately dived and spun erratically, dissapearing in clouds. Remainder of EA then withdrew". Later, again with Sgt Betteridge, returning from a bombing raid in machine D1689, thick fog at aerodrome, crashed in woods, lost wings in treetops, west of Quercamp.
