Description Large Exceptional Authentic Crotalocephalus Trilobite Fossil from the Devonian period, 395 - 345 million years ago during the late Paleozoic age. Found in northern Africa. This is a n exceptional Trilobite both in size and condition . Measures 3.45" x 3" x 1.90" and weighs approx. 319 grams. Authentic trilobites such as this one are found by breaking apart large masses of hard rock to find the Trilobites in crevices inside. Once located, the matrix rock is carefully cleaned back to expose the fossilized Trilobite skeleton. This process sometimes calls for repairs to the matrix rock and fossil. It is professionally done and only noticeable upon the closest inspection. This Trilobite shows great detail and dates from the Paleozoic Age, about 345 million years old. Trilobites are extinct arthropods. This guy had a heavy exoskeleton composed of calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate minerals, and protein, therefore leaving behind a well preserved fossil record.
