NEW and NEVER USED!!! IN ORIGINAL BOX (box shows shelfwear)!!! VERY HARD TO FIND!!! Quoting from the box: "Lionel's superb engineering and the remarkable artistic heritage of Walt Disney Productions combined to produce the new (1977) Mickey Mouse Express series. This collection of color-fully decorated engine, caboose and rolling stock celebrates the efforts of two men, Joshua Lionel Cowen and Walt Disney, whose labors have brought joy to millions for nearly the whole of the 20th century. It also recalls an earlier and fortunate association of 40 years past. At the time, in the troubled Thirties Lionel was in its 34th year but in difficult financial straits. The company was forced into a receivership under the burden of substantial debts. With an uncertain future ahead the company made plans for a new season and introduced a new product line featuring a Mickey Mouse wind-up hand car that rode on a circle of track and sold for $1.00. The product was an astounding success and 253,000 were sold in the first four months. The fortunes of company turned and Lionel soon paid off all debts. The receivership was terminated and control of the company returned to its owners." "The Mickey Mouse hand car accounted for only 5% of the company's sales during this period but clearly spearheaded and symbolized the recovery. The judge handling the receivership singled Mickey out for praise and financial pages of the most prestigious newspapers headlined in effect that Mickey had led Lionel to solvency. Lionel marketed a number of Disney character themed items during the Thirties, all successful but non ever duplicated the feats of Mickey back in 1934 when he, as the New York Times wrote, 'Saved Jersey Toy Concern' or as the Herald Tribune colorfully noted 'Hand Car Riding Rodent and His Minnie Tow Lionel Out of the Red.'" In 1977 Lionel Trains and Walt Disney Productions teamed up to try and reignite the Magic of 1934 by releasing WALT DISNEY'S MICKEY MOUSE EXPRESS train line. There were a total of 15 cars including an engine and caboose. This auction is for the MICKEY Hi-Cube Box Car. This is number 6-9660. This FANTASTIC Mickey Box Car measures about 10 1/8" Long (not including trailer hitches to connect to the other box cars) x 2 1/4" Wide x 3 1/2" High (including the wheels). This Box Car is BRAND NEW in the original box (the box shows minor wear and may have small tears at the seams). This has NEVER been on display or run on the tracks and comes from a nonsmoking environment. The graphics are FANTASTIC and feature MICKEY (only his head and it is big) and Minnie giving Pluto a doggie bath and the batch of 11 kittens (I think I counted right) helping!
