Dixie Hotel Beaumont, Texas Bank Check signed by Brothel's Madam Rita Ainsworth First National Bank of Beaumont , Texas Dixie Hotel 238 ½ Crockett Phone 5-9095 Offered is a real bank check from the infamous Dixie Hotel on Crockett Street in Beaumont , Texas . This well known brothel operated in downtown Beaumont during the 1940's - 1950's. The Dixie Hotel was the "finest house of ill repute between Houston and New Orleans ." It was closed down in 1961 by the "James Commission" while investigating crime and corruption in Jefferson County . This authentic canceled bank check was drawn on the First National Bank of Beaumont and bears the original signature of Rita Ainsworth , the madam of The Dixie Hotel . "The Dixie" is now known as the " Dixie Dance Hall " and is a part of the Crockett Street Entertainment District. This is check #1103 Dated February 15, 1955 It was made payable to: Atlas Sew-Vac ( Atlas Sew-Vac Stores, Inc. ) For $7.80 It is stamped on the back: For Deposit Only Atlas Sew-Vac Stores, Inc. 235 Orleans Street Beaumont , Texas This check has a small tear on the left edge w a staple was removed.
