TheDuluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway (DM&IR) (reporting mark DMIR) was a railroad operating in northern Minnesota hauling iron ore and later taconite to the Great Lakes ports of Duluth and Two Harbors, Minnesota. It was ultimately bought by Canadian National.TheDM&IR was formed by the 1937 merger of the Duluth, Missabe and NorthernRailway (DM&N) and the Spirit Lake Transfer Railway; the Duluth and IronRange Rail Road (D&IR) and Interstate Transfer Railway were added in 1938.All of these had been leased by the DM&N since 1930.I have had this lantern since the 1970's. My father was a locomotive engineer for the DM &IR. Much of my family and the town (Proctor, MN) worked on the railroad. Although the lantern has sentimental value, I have recently downsized and have no room for it.
