Up for sale are 1000 Hand Split Cedar Shingles. If you are looking for the authentic Colonial or Back Woods Cabin effect please continue to read on. What I do is count out the number in stacks of five, take the pictures, pack the box and then throw in some extras to fill the box. By using the measurements of a well worn Lufkin Folding Rule the Shingles are approximately 2” Long, 11/16” wide & 1/16 to ¼” thick. For coverage if you laid them end to end you would have 1375 sq. in. If you laid them 1” to the weather it would give you 687.5 sq. in. or an area of a little more than 12” by 57”. I know I can’t compete against what I call Store Bought shingles in price due to the simple fact that my shingles have 3 to 4 times more volume in board feet and weight then a Store Bought. I can compete in quality, natural color variations length and thickness. The variation in thickness gives a very realistic appearance also for those of you who have worked with the paper thin store bought I have yet to see these curl after being laid. If you look in the pictures you will see a birdhouse built using pine strapping and these shingles laid 1” to the weather and single row. The 2” length gives the builder a wide variation of choices in laying to the weather. I have used up to 1 ½” to the weather with no problems and I am confident I could go to 1 read more
