This is an auction for a Don Carlos pipe, in a classic straight Billiard shape. The shank and bowl are uniquely hand carved. Like all Don Carlos pipes, this is of excellent quality, though I'm not sure of its note. This pipe has never been smoked. The 2nd picture is admittedly terrible and certainly do the pipe justice. The profile picture is accurate to how the pipe looks. This particular pipe is rather large, measuring 6 1/4" long, and the bowl is 2 1/2" tall. Stamped on the bottom: Don CarlosFatta A Mano In Italia Don Carlos pipes originated from Maestro Bruto Sordini's passion for classical music and especially for the opera. The pipe maker from Cagli gets his inspiration from music and also listens to it while he is working. His pipes are classical but from time to time he also makes freehand shapes. All pipes are handmade. The briar used for the pipes comes from Calabria and was dried for at least 2 years before it is processed. To make this process as gentle as possible he himself takes on the storage in specially equipped storage shelves outside. All Don Carlos pipes are free of putty and are divided into three categories of quality which are indicated by notes. The fine briars are finished by a polish with carnauba wax.
