Pottery "FIDDLEHEAD FERN" Swirl Dark Blue And White Candle Holder....This is a mid-century c. 1965, piecethat measures approximately 5 1/2 x 2 1/3 inches. Fully signed by both the hand decorating artists and hand made stoneware designer: N. RICCI fecit & C.A.H. for Charles Allen Hill.. Until 1971, all the clay used at the Dorchester Pottery Stoneware Works came from South Amboy, NJ, and the cobalt used for the blue slip decoration came from Germany. Dorchester was founded by George Henderson in 1895 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. At first, the firm made utilitarian stoneware, but collectors are most interested in the line of decorated blue and white pottery that Dorchester made from 1940 until it went out of business in 1979. Even in the 1970s, automated machines were not used; pieces were hand-formed and hand-dipped, and handles were applied individually. Also listing "PINECONE" design candle holder.
