It weighs 2 pound 6 ounces, and is approximately 6 inch x 3 1/2 inch x 1 1/2. It looks as if it was a part of a large geode. This piece will be a great addition to your collection, or a great way to start one! Amethyst is a transparent,coarse-grained, purple variety of quartz and is the most important quartz variety used in all kinds of jewelry. Manganese in quartz produces the purple color, and additional iron content will vary the coloration. Amethyst can occur in different ways: as long prismatic crystals that have a six sided pyramid or can form as druzes that are crystalline crusts that only show the pointed terminations.
