VERY GOOD Hardcover copy of this enchanting 1948 Newbery Medal winner. The book is clean and unmarked. Pages are lightly edge toned, 2 leaves also have small stains on edges, otherwise pages near fine - no chips, tears creases or other blemishes. Bound in hardcover of paper over boards, printed in a basket-weave design with title printed on front board, and a red cloth spine. The spine is titled in black. There is a faint orange line on front cover, probably crayon, and light staining to spine but no other marks or soiling. Edges are moderately toned and worn; corners are rubbed to boards and spine cloth darkened. Binding is a bit creaky; hinges and endpapers are intact, no splits or cracks to book-block. A tale of a schoolteacher's adventurous trip in a hot-air balloon, delightfully illustrated by Du Bois with black & white drawings throughout. SIZE: 6-1/4 x 9-1/2".
