Dug AMES CIVIL WAR CALVARY SWORD AND SCABBARD WITH BATTLE USE MARKS Dug AMES CIVIL WAR CALVARY SWORD AND SCABBARD WITH BATTLE USE MARKS. This sword was dug by myself in 2001, near a Skirmish site in West Va. I had full permission to metal detect the site. The relic sword's blade remains in remarkable condition,with no rust (I think because it was found in deep Mud the Scabbard Protected the Blade).On the Blade are at least 11 v shaped cuts or nicks, showing sword to to sword contact. The blade also has Ames manufacturing stamped into it. Further the blade is 35 inches long from hilt to tip. The hilt Has US Army inspectors initials in the Cap I found these inspectors to have been in Office in 1861. the Basket is bent as shown as well. The Fight near the Spot It was found was a Skirmish site in the summer of 1863 The scabbard is as shown with damage and only one ring. the Relic comes with a display Board the board with need a couple pins replace to properly display the relic. My Interests and Location have Changed so I am offering this relic to a new owner. at a full low opening bid auction.
