Hardcover Leather Good Only 5" x 8-1/4" (12.8 cm x 21 cm) viij + 597 pp. The first edition of the abridgment of Dupuis' multi-volume work Origine de tous les Cultes, ou la Réligion Universelle (1795). The covers are still attached to the text block, but only loosely held by one or two cords each. The covers are considerably worn and stained, exposing the boards at the edges and corners; the upper half+ of the spine is missing as seen in the photo detail. The free front end paper is missing, and the volume begins with the half-title page, which has an owner's name and date of 1833. The introductory pages through p 34 are partially separated from the binding at the top. he rest of the text block is intact in the binding with the exception of the leaves containing pages 247-250, which are separated, with creasing to their fore- and lower edges (photo detail). The pages are intact with varying degrees of age spotting - the photos of the book open to facing text pages are representative examples. I find only two pages with corner chips - 385 and 395 - and only one page with an introduced mark: in line 1 of p. 382, the preposition "au" has been written in ink above an apparent typographical read more
