This is a Dutch solid hallmarked .833 standard silver cake slice. It has the lion mark with a number 2 on the stamp, meaning that it is of .833 standard and made before 1953. It also has a maker's mark 'AL', and Minerva mark with the assay office mark 'M'.It is decorated all over the front with pierced and repoussage scenes and embellishments. There is a tavern scene to the handle with a man playing a stringed instrument. To the slice itself is a scene showing soldiers. All this is surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves and masks. The back is not decorated and you can see where the silver has been punched to make the relief decoration. There is one raised area to the handle which looks like it may be a repair, or it may be part of the maufacturing process. Other than that it seems in good general condition. It is 18cm in length and weighs 44g.
