Dyscrasite with SideriteSt Andreasberg, St Andreasberg District, Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany7.2cm x 4.25cm x 3.6cmEx. New York State MuseumEx. Egleston Mineral Museum of Columbia UniversityDescription/Interesting Notes:A very unusual example of POCKET dyscrasite from this historic silver-rich locale!!! This specimen consists of a vug of amber-colored siderite rhombs that hosts a highly complex crystal of dyscrasite!!! "Pocket" examples of dyscrasite are practically unheard of!!! The crystal has grayish-silver metallic luster and exhibits a highly complex morphology that is almost reminiscent of a bournonite at first glance!!! The majority of dyscrasite crystals that are encountered have usually been etched out of matrix (arsenic, calcite, etc.) and exhibit somewhat distorted forms - however this specimen is very unique in comparison, as it formed in an open pocket!!! This specimen came from the New York State Museum and had come from the Egleston Mineral Museum of Columbia University in 1902!!! This specimen retains old labels and an affixed catalogue number as well!!! Very rare and unusual material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!NOTE: WE JUST RETURNED FROM THE TUCSON SHOW!!! STAY TUNED FOR MORE FINDS read more
