Charles Eames vintage Zenith Plastics chair 1950-53 for Herman Miller You are bidding on a very early vintage original design by Charles Eames , one of the earliest production examples of the famous fiberglass chairs by Eames. This chair was manufactured by Zenith Plastics, Gardena , California (see photo of decal) sometime between 1950 and 1953, and distributed by Herman Miller, Zeeland , Michigan . These are the earliest examples of the Eames fibreglass chairs, prior to their mass production by the Herman Miller Company - translucent in color with the fibreglass strands and rope edge clearly visible, a characteristic of these earlier and rarer versions produced by Zenith Plastics. Reference: Neuhart and Eames, Eames Design , pp. 139- 141 . Description: Beautiful, delicate "Parchment" color (one of three offered for this early version) semi-translucent fiberglass with visible rope edge, metal base, rubber shock mounts add to the base with glue. Zenith Plastics decal on bottom of shell. (see photo). Condition: Excellent - all appears original - no replacement parts, shock mounts and glue in outstanding condition, no breaks, no cracks.
