This auction is for a Victorian Figural Silver plate Brides Basket with an EAPG, Early American Pattern Glass insert that is the Shell and Tassel pattern no.555 by George A. Duncan & Sons of Pittsburgh , Pa , circa 1881. The pattern was designed by Augustus H. Heisey and patented July 26, 1881 the pattern has also been refered to as Hedlin Shell, and Shell and Spike. The fantastic silver plate basket the glass insert sets in was made by ROGERS SMITH & CO. MERIDEN CT. and is marked on the bottom along with QUADRUPLE and a shape no. 256. The basket stands on four legs that support an oval base decorated with a floral design the handle is attached to this forming a lattice with dimensional flowers and a bird on each side. T is a round button at the top with a monogram of LH. The same monogram is found on the handle of the shell shaped bowl spoon. I looked it up in the pattern book and it is listed as Crown âe" 1855 first made by Rogers Smith Co. then Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co and last by Rogers & Bro. it is marked 1847 Rogers Bro. A1. T are no cracks or damage other than one small chip on the inside of one of the ridges, it is my guess that the plating is gone it has more of a pewter look I did not try to polish it. It is 11 âe tall 10" long and 6-3/4âe wide and would make a great addition to your figural silver collection. sku vbfg2 read more
