Thisis an entire letter from Edinburgh and is dated 20 th August 77 (I believe this to be 20 th August 1677 as a consequence of the style of writing and the language used). I purchased this due to the face containing the words “ Att Livingstone ” and I believed it may relate to the village which predated the new town of Livingston . I have now come around to thinking it may relate to a family known as Livingstone. (I may be wrong although I do not think this to be a legal entire) When I purchased it I also intended to transcribe the item although due to the style of writing (and if is definitely written in English) I cannot decipher a sufficient run of words to for it to make any sense. I am no expert on postmarks and the item is in my collection due to the banking links. This item would make for an interesting exercise and if you have some time and either some skill with old writing or more determination that I have then this may be for you. Please see the face although I believe there to be no postal markings. The item measures c. 22 cms * 17 cms. It is 4 pages although only one page of writing. There is no watermark on the paper. Condition is in keeping with my belief of age (near 340 years old” and has the usual hole / tear where opened. The seal is still attached. The item shows grubbiness in areas and small hole on folds.
