RARE Early 1900's VIP Poupee Doll France Made by Louis Vuitton ParisI recently had the opportunity to purchase a doll and miniature collection from the David and Betty Rose Estate in Sherman Oaks, California. All of the 45 dolls were in incredible condition and had been lovingly stored in a glass cabinet for many, many years. The miniatures dating from 1790 to the 1940's were also lovingly cared for and stored for away many years. David Rose, was an incredible composer and conductor whose work in television, films and recordings won him four Emmy awards, 22 Grammys, an Oscar nomination, conducted and composed the music for more than 50 record albums, produced the scores for 36 films and wrote themes and background music for 24 television series. David Rose had also been married to the late Martha Raye and Judy Garland.ABOUT THIS LOUIS VUITTON POUPEE DOLLThis is a very rare doll indeed, only two similar ones have become available to the market in the last 10 years. She is a composition doll that was created for the VIP clients of Louis Vuitton, Paris. She is wearing a highly detailed couture dress made of wool flannel, silk thread embroidery, a handmade lace apron and lace trimmed shirt with cuffs. She also has a velvet and metallic thread corset over her shirt and a lovely silk thread embroidered head scarf over her blonde mohair. She has a beautifully hand painted face, is wearing a gold cross necklace and there is a tiny hand written label in the front of her dress that reads, "Ile de France".On the inside of her skirt is the Louis Vuitton 70 Champs-Elysées Paris label. In 1914, Louis Vuitton set up business at this address as he saw the importance of the need for trunks which he created for the military and later for his speciality clients. After the war as the economy improved, his top clients were again requesting special orders for fashion, trunks and other items. He then started giving 'trinkets' to his most special clients, including a doll just like the one up for auction. Finding Louis Vuitton doll trunks are not that rare, finding a Louis Vuitton doll, is very rare.
