This is an Early 1900s Oak Ice Box that was made by Polar King of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This Ice Box was made expressly for N. Snellenburg & Co. of Philladelphia, Pennsylvania An Ice Box to store food was found in most homes prior to the invention of the electric refridgerator. What makes this Ice Box so special is that the food compartment was porcelain lined rather than metal. The Oak Ice Box has three door compartments. The compartment that held and stored the ice is lined in aluminum. The old Ice Box is in like new condition and possibly never used to store food. The Ice Box is extremely clean and is pristine condition. The Old Ice Box has beautiful Tiger Oak stripes and this wood was considered prized. The fact that the wood has such beautiful grain lines shows that the ice box was made for a special company that most likely was not of the average. The Old Ice Box has a beautiful aged patina. The complete hardware hinges, claps, and latches, and screws used to attatach the hardware are all original to the ice box and are made of brushed nickel. The hardware has been cleaned and brought back to its original luster. The Old Ice Box is completely original and has not been altered in any way.
