This is a very old Real Photo Postcard postmarked Dubuque, Iowa October 1906. There is no divider line on the back and it reads "This side for the Address Only". The Fenelon Elevator or cable car was originally installed so that a former Senator, Mr. Graves, could have faster access to his house up on the hill at the end of 4th street. The image on the postcard shows the building at the bottom with advertising on the roof, "FINE VIEW COME UP FARE 5 cents". There is a large brick house on the right with three people standing. One is an elderly man with a long, white beard and the other is a woman in period dress. The other individual is obscured by a tree. This might be the residence of a Mr. Trewin who was a stockholder...or it might be the operator's house. Inscription on the bottom reads "See Elevator Up Bluff, 300 feet high also our residence, Joseph (last name hard to read) 47 W 4th St., Dubuque, Iowa". In fair condition as shown. I will send in a #10 envelope with cardboard backing to protect from bending. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks for looking!
