Pre World War I. 1900s German Feather Tree in Wooden Base. 51" in height. Without ornaments and decorations, this tree looks like a Charlie Brown tree, but it is in imitation of the white firs which grow in the forests of Germany. The Germans were the first to use artificial trees as early as 1840 for they feared the depletion of forests. This one, is from the early 1900s before World War II. Much more rare as the tree was the type used by the Germans to display their ornaments to buyers in Germany. Thus the trees at this time of the year were lighter green at the tips of branches as they were growing. This is so authentic.Plus so elaborate, as there are many side branches as you can see as you go up the tree.Really one of the best from our collection--if not the best. The base is painted with poinsettias on all four sides plus holly and berries."Germany" on underneath of base. This tree has red composition berries at the ends of each branch.Really for an old tree such as this, in very good condition.Granted, some of the feathers are missing on ends of one branch-- and hardly noticeableAnd missing a few berries here and there--and very few.But what a tree, and a really nice one as it is just perfect for showing off old ornaments. There is nothing wrong with these Christmas items, OTHER THAN WHAT IS SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED ABOVE ABOUT
