is a wonderful early 19th century plate from Derby - handpainted in the traditional Imari palette of cobalt and iron red, enhanced by gilding - the center with a spray of prunnus, peony and other blossoms, enclosed in an intricate border of black oeil-de-perdrix cartouches alternating with 'comma' cartouches flanked by cobalt and gilt leaves and topped by a cobalt demiflowerhead, all finished by a gilt chevron rim. Reverse with trailing vine issuing berries. Diameter is 10 1/8". Signed with crown, crossed batons, and 'D' mark in iron red (hastily drawn), mark used c. 1800 - 1825. Also, painters' numerals. Condition is very close to excellent - no chips, cracks, 'nicks' or stains - just light wear to gilding of central flower petals, mostly to left side of large peony, and slight wear to iron red, at edges of center. The losses are minor - this is a spectacular display piece.
