RARE Early 19 th Century French Musical Palais Royal Sewing / Neccessaire Box with Original Interior. A very unusual box with a fantastic shape. The box is veneered in what I believe to be maple. The box itself does need a little tlc. The inside lid of the box has a fitted mirror, there has been some damage to the left hinge at some time – not visible from the outside – see photos. It is missing the finial to the lid and also has two pieces of banding missing to the edge of the lid. The original tray is fitted with what I believe to be the original tools. The only one missing is the thimble. There are 3 finely carved mother of pearl thread winders (no damage) and three gilded sewing implements – the needle case could be gold – it has impressed marks – see photos. The cut glass scent bottle appears to have a silver top, this is untested, but does have its internal glass stopper. Sadly the bottom of the glass bottle has been broken, still a rare example of a hard to find shape. There is also one small round mirror missing from the fitted tray. The tray once removed reveals a wind up musical box. – see photos. It looks complete to me with no damage to any of the teeth. – see photo. It winds from underneath the box (no key) The box stands on what I believe are the original feet, there is no key for the box, the escutcheon is missing. read more
