This wonderful old teapot is close to 200 years old We believe it was made by Copeland & Garrett, around 1825-35, although it is not marked, and is part of an antique tea set we are putting up this week.Magnificently decorated with peach borders overlaid with lavishly gilded scrolling foliage and gilded rims, it boasts a classic early Victorian form with a squat, rotund body, double scroll handle and stubby feet., quite charming. The matching underplate is molded at the corners to accomodate the feet. It is square. This piece was de-accessioned from a famous midwest museum, and retains its painted catalog numbers on the base. It measures 10" from spout to handle and stands about 8" tall. The underplate is about 9" square. It does have a few minor condition issues, but we do not feel they detract significantly from its marvelous presence. The finial on the lid has been replaced, and there are a few glaze hairlines one at the spout and one near the handle, and one on the lid. The gold is bright and shiny, there is almost no gilding rub, and the china is a gorgeous pure white. Overall, quite a gorgeous and dramatic piece from the height of the days of British Empire. Thanks for looking. I hope you can Check out my other items which include matching pieces to this tea set.
