Early Rare 20thC NORITAKE Komaru Imari Style Hand Painted Trio Cup Saucer Plate Item Description: A striking NORITAKE cup, saucer & side plate trio in a bold Imari Style, hand painted in rich Imari style colours featuring stunning, turquoise enamel inserts. Circa 1908-1920. Beautifully presented, highly collectable & a rarely seen pattern. Cup measures: 6cm tall x 8.5cm diameter. Saucer: 3.5cm. Plate 16.5cm. Mark: Crowned with "Noritake" and below the mark "Made In Japan". The centre symbol said to be taken from the Japanese character "Komaru", (also known as the Maruki symbol) meaning "overcoming difficulties", sometimes referred to as a spider mark due to it's appearance of having arms. According to the Noritake company tradition this mark was designed when meeting the different culture of the west early in the 20th century caused many problems, also known as the "tree crest mark" which is the clan crest of the Morimura family. This mark is said to have been registered in London for the UK market already in the 1908. Notice the curled up ends of the Komaru symbol which distinguish this mark from later versions.Would make a fantastic gift perhaps for a vintage themed wedding?
