This is an antique folk art George Washington doll...most likely made somew during the very early 20th century (possibly earlier?). They were commonly made during patriotic celebrations including the Centennial and Bicentennial and many were homemade folk art dolls like this one. This doll is about 7 ½" tall with a kid head with painted on features and sewn in and styled hair and black felt three corner hat. He has a flat cardboard body, a white linen ribbon to simulate legs and black oil cloth boots. Unfortunately his once gorgeous purple jacket made of silk has disintegrated over the years but the two sleeves are still t, tacked to the front, and t are gold toned round buttons down the front as well as a long ruffle. T was a black ribbon attached to his neck so he could be hung like an ornament. Wonderful old collectible to add to a collection of these type of folk art dolls.
