For auction is a most unusual & very early, signed & labeled Celtic "Folksy" bowl by William (Bill) Fisher. Heavily incised & produced in a white clay, which features heavily as the background colour, the design is cruder & more dynamic than the later Phoenix designs. The glaze too is different, as it appears to have been quite sparsely brushed on (rather than dipped) as the brush stokes are clearly visible. The combination of colour & glaze give the bowl an almost "emulsioned" effect.Measuring 10 inches (25.5 cms.) in length & 6 inches (15 cms wide) the body of bowl is rather less refined than later production pieces are & has some slight under glaze imperfections which reflect this.Signed with an incised FISHER to the base, the bowl also has a greenish yellow label which reads" Designed & made by William Fisher Mousehole Cornwall". I have collected other early Celtic pottery items but have never seen anything quite resembling this one - which possibly pre-dates the forming of Celtic Pottery by both Bill & Maggi Fisher? Please view all phptographs & feel free to email if you have any questions. All in all a most intriguing item. Sorry if the postage seems high but the length & fragility of the bowl necessitates packing in a larger box, which will take it into the medium parcel category. Please view my feedback, & thanks for your read more
