This is a very nice and very early hand forged hammer. It has a single strap in the back which goes through the eye and is peened over or clinched to hold the head on. The strap is then pinned to the handle. It does have a single wedge in the top of the handle that was most likely driven in many years later, but is still quite old. Really an excellent early hand forged hammer. It weighs approximately 11 1/2 oz. The tool has an overall length of 11 3/4".
