Meticulously cleaned, fully restored, and verified as authentic, this is vintage LODGE as it was meant to look! Chartered in 1910 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee as the successor company to the Blacklock Foundry, The Lodge Manufacturing Company continues to this day as a family-owned American manufacturer, offering a product line of more than 140 cookware items, plus trendy and seasonal pieces, and items marked for other organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America. When this uncommon #8 Dutch Oven Skillet left the LODGE foundry, it was NOT dusty or dirty, was NOT encrusted with coagulated grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for age and normal use wear, once again looks much as it did so many decades ago! This auction is for a VERY GOOD natural Iron Finish LODGE #8 cast iron Dutch Oven Skillet or Extra Deep Skillet with an inset Heat Ring, in GOOD overall condition . Originally sold with either a high or low dome self-basting cover (NOT included , this well-made old #8 Deep Skillet, known as a "Dutch Oven Skillet", dates from the 1920's and 1930's, measures 10.5" rim-to-rim, 11.25" spout-to-spout, 16.0" helper handle-to-handle-tip, is 3.625" deep, has a cooking surface diameter of 7.5", and has a 7.0" diameter inset bottom heat ring . Having the size number " 8" embossed in a raised figure on the handle top, the exterior bottom has no markings or nomenclature, but typical of this issue, the bottom of the helper handle tab is also embossed with the raised size number " 8" . This attractive and highly useful deep chicken fryer is well cast, with virtually NO exterior casting roughness, and with just a few casting bumps, dimples or flow marks in evidence, has the warm, rich, dark color of well-maintained vintage cast iron, will sit flat, and rings nicely, like a bell, when tapped, but does have some exterior discoloration from rust removal and some "Orange Peel", (very shallow pitting) on the exterior bottom . This substantial and well crafted extra deep cooking pan has been thoroughly cleaned of all coagulated grease and carbon, of any corrosion, and lightly pre-seasoned with food-grade vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. In surprisingly nice condition, and with an interior that is worn VERY SMOOTH to the touch through long and careful use, with just a few tiny utensil marks and light scratches in evidence, the manufacturer's milling marks have almost entirely disappeared from the polished cooking surface, but are still lightly evident on the interior sidewalls, and in the spouts. This 70+ year old extra deep skillet is very collectible to be sure, and a really fine choice for non-stick cooking or display. Any questions?
