Early Cornelis Botke etching - Framed Etching by well listed artist 'Cornelis Botke'. Titled 'The Abbey Mont St Michel' Signed on lower right. First three pictures show truest colors. Others are for details. No noticeable toning but it is still framed so it is hard to tell. No foxing, mold, or mildew. Print seems to be in great shape. Some very minor warping to paper. Tried to show in second to last photo. Etching plate size: 7" wide by 8 7/8" tall. Viewable image size: 7 3/16" wide by 9 1/4" tall. Frame size: 10 1/4" by 12 1/4" A small bio: Cornelis Botke (1887-1954) Born in Holland, Cornelis Botke studied at the Haarlem School for Applied Design before immigrating to the U.S. in 1906. Settling in Chicago, Botke maintained a studio and continued his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met his future wife, the art student Jessie Arms. In 1919 the Botkes moved to Carmel, California, where Cornelis taught at Carmel Arts and Crafts. Following a tour through Europe, the couple ultimately settled on a ranch in Santa Paula, California, where the couple built a studio they could share. Not sure when these etchings were created, but possibly on above stated 'tour through Europe'? I have tried to familiarize myself with this work and this artist but I am no expert.
