Very Scarce Early Roseville Utilitarian Stoneware Walking Cow Pitcher Pre-1916 Up for auction is a pre-1916 antique Roseville pottery stoneware pitcher with a folk art image of grazing cows on either side. This pitcher is unmarked which dates it to pre-1916 and from Roseville's Utility line. This pitcher would have been used in the day to day running of the household, and it remains in very good condition even today. Not many survived. Also, as these pitchers were sold for utilitarian use, they sometimes were hand painted a bit sloppily. This one does seem to have been very well done. It is very rare to find one of these pitchers in such good condition. There is a slight flaw at the tip of the pouring spout. This defect happened during its making and in fact the glazing confirms that it happened before firing in the furnace. Since it is more than 100 years old there is crazing throughout as expected. The pitcher measure 8.5" from spout to handle. It is 5.75" in width and stands 8" tall.
