ECUADOR 1902 FIRE Ferrocarril GYE-UIO Surcharge on MNG 10c Stamp On July 16th and 17th, 1902, while an extensive fire spread through the city of Guayaquil, a large quantity of unsold postage stamps were stolen from the post office. The Ecuadorian Goverment, to prevent the use of these stolen stamps, decreed that the various Provinces, overprint with distinctive control markings, all stamps then on hand.
