"THE EDGE"Cree Indian Canoe Paddle Movie PropUp for auction is this hand-carved, painted to detail Cree Indian Canoe Paddle Replica from the 1997 film, "The Edge".During the early part of the film, the lodge owner makes a bet with Anthony Hopkins' character by showing him one side of a canoe paddle and having him guess the image on the other side. On the side shown to Hopkins, is an image of a black panther. With a $5.00 bet on the line, Hopkins' character calmly recites that the image on the other side of the blade is a rabbit smoking a pipe.Elaborating on this native tradition, Hopkins later explains that the rabbit is smoking a pipe because he is unafraid; the rabbit is unafraid because he is smarter than the panther. This brief exchange serves as foreshadowing for the events ahead in the film. This is a nice piece for any Native American art collector or film fan. It was carved from solid wood and hand-painted to detail. It measures approximately 52.5" inches long and 5.5" inches wide on the blade with a thickness of 1.5" inches. This would be great hanging up on the wall, just like in the film, or even in a frame.
