An ornate Edwardian 9ct hallmarked gold seal fob, set with luscious deep velvet red carnelian hardstone. The stone is in excellent condition, with a highly polished finish and no visible damage. The mount is also in excellent condition, decorated mainly with repousse style whorls, but with the nice finishing touch of a pineapple at the top of the base between each side of the grip. The hallmarks are positioned vertically down one side of the suspension loop, and are small but clear when viewed under magnification, apart from the date letter which is unreadable, the marks are; the Crown of a style designating 9ct gold, the 375 gold purity mark, the Leopards head of the London assay office and the date letter which is unclear. Although we do not have a readable mark to accurately date this item, the overall style and setting of the stone suggest late Victorian into Edwardian, and I have used this period as a basis for the listing. At this time these fobs were never intended to be engraved as a seal and were used solely as adornment. This would look exquisite worn on a chain around the neck as a pendant.
