This is an unusual brooch by virtue of its shape. My description would be that it is a domed lozenge. The decoration is incised framing the name IRENE created in capital letters. Irene means Peace. The hinge and catch fit with a date around 1900-1905. The brooch is approximately 5.5 cm long. There are small continental marks on the edges of the brooch around the area of the pointed ends. The brooch is silver and tests as 900/925 quality. The brooch is sold with the box (as shown) which is a black leatherette, antique style brooch / pendant box.
