Very nice clean E 37500 AN5741-1aircraft chronograph thought to be from WWII ERA. Missing 1 movement retaining screw but otherwise is complete, running and keeping excellent time. Very low Serial no 003xxThe AN 5741-1 was an8-day elapsed time clock used for aircraft navigation purposes during and afterWWII, made according to US Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics and the US Army AirCorps specifications (hence the "AN" designation). The US gov't. issued military contracts to both Hamilton andElgin to build this clock because they wanted two sources of supply whichresulted in Hamilton's and Elgin's cooperative effort in designing andproducing the clock.The clock has a 24-hour dial, an 8-day, 16-jewel movementwith a lever escapement and two barrel mainspring assemblies. The movement has1 hour & 12 hour chronographs and civil date features designed for use as anavigational instrument in aircraft. The production arrangements were shared between Elgin andHamilton. They did not duplicate part production. For instance Elgin solelymade the escapement and associated parts incorporating its 'Elginium'hairspring material.
