This is a pencil signed etching by Elizabeth O'Neill Verner (1883 - 1979) of St. Michael's Alley, Charleston NC. The etching measures approximately 2" x 2 1/2" and is in a 5" x 7" frame. Signed by the artist in pencil in the lower right corner, titled "St. Michael's Alley" in pencil in the lower left corner, the etching is matted and framed, under glass. The etching is in good condition with minor foxing. A native of Charleston, Elizabeth O’Neill Verner was an artist, teacher, and preservationist and probably the best-known woman artist of South Carolina in the Twentieth Century. Her works are included in the collections of the Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah; the Morris Museum of Art, Augusta; the Columbia Museum of Art, South Carolina; the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, University of New Orleans; and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
